JULIA FULLERTON-BATTEN. P & 0 (Teenage Stories 02), 2005. 2/5 edition. C-Print on aluminium. 102 x 127 cm.
Exhibit Gallery hosts the photography exhibition Teenage Stories, characterized by its poetic, intimate and melancholic atmosphere. The artwork, generally featuring young women, adolescents, or girls, explore the relationship between personal and mysterious. Teenage Stories captures moments of vulnerability, introspection and emotional turbulence.
The artists chosen for the exhibition are Daniela Edburg (USA, 1975), Julia Fullerton-Batten (Germany, 1970), Aino Kannisto (Finland, 1973), Ellen Kooi (Netherlands, 1962), Anni Leppälä (Finland, 1981), and Rita Magalhães (Portugal, 1974). These renowned artists of Western photography (European and American) share a generational framework, in which women have acquired a greater presence in the artistic world and have explored themes related to femininity, memory, and identity. Their professional development coincided with significant changes in photography and the representation of women in art. Given this context, these photographers began to explore new ways of visually telling stories, moving away from traditional documentary photography and toward a more staged, cinematic, and conceptual approach.
