Jorge Martins’ paintings are populated by elements (bodies and, above all, objects), which occupy the space of the canvas without a sense of hierarchy and where time seems to be suspended.
It was at this time that he chose light in a heterodox integration of the research of minimalism, that is, the interest in light, from James Turrell to Dan Flavin, as an aggregating element of his research, which makes the subject of representation itself: the source of light; light as the immanent presence of the support; the surface of the screen as the product of the effects of light; the colours as the object of play between light and shadow; light as the modeller of objects. The artist reinvents space, objects and their image by representing their illusory effects or by playing with shadows, often resorting to a very particular tromp l’oeil.
